The appearance of the drug

Danabol is one of the few anabolic steroids designed solely to enhance performance. The compound once had so-called therapeutic uses, but the real reason this steroid came to life was because of its potency. In the 1940s and 1950s, the Soviet Union began to dominate the Olympics, and the use of testosterone by many of its athletes left the rest of the world far behind. During this time, the American Olympic team Dr. John Ziegler learned about steroid use in the USSR and quickly helped ensure his athletes’ compliance. 1958 with the help of Dr. Ziegler, Ciba Pharmaceuticals launched the first batch of metandrostenolone under the trade name Dianabol. The compound is designed to maintain the anabolic properties of testosterone with less androgenicity through a fast-acting and powerful method. Overnight the steroid seemed to become a huge hit, giving many American athletes a clear advantage over their Soviet rivals.

Application of the drug

Since its inception, Danabol has quickly found its way into almost every possible sport. Combined with exogenous testosterone, this will lead to an era of performance the world has never seen before. The steroid has also quickly become a chapter in competitive bodybuilding, where it remains popular to this day. Shortly after its release, however, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) began putting intense pressure on Ciba to force the company to disclose the steroid’s true medical benefits. The FDA would approve its use to treat osteoporosis in postmenopausal women as well as pituitary dwarfism, but it was withdrawn in the early 1980s. The FDA again requested more information from Ciba, but in 1983, under increasing pressure, Ciba stopped Dianabol. A few years later, the FDA will take all brands of methandrostenolone off the shelf. Since then, Dianabol is no longer legally manufactured in the United States, but is still manufactured worldwide.
